Nigeria’s Crisis Took Years, Tinubu Fixing Deep Economic Damage – Ajiboye

An APC chieftain and Executive Secretary of the National Institute of Cultural Orientation, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting Nigeria’s economic hardship is the outcome of years of mismanagement, not recent reforms.

Speaking on ARISE News, Ajiboye said Nigeria’s collapse did not happen overnight, describing claims that Tinubu worsened poverty and unemployment as misleading. He blamed excessive money printing, oil forward sales and policy distortions inherited in 2023, warning the country was heading toward a Sri Lanka-style crisis before reforms began.

According to him, Tinubu’s economic measures were unavoidable and aimed at correcting structural failures. He argued inflation and high living costs reflect past decisions whose consequences surfaced later. Ajiboye also dismissed claims that tax reforms target the poor, stressing they are meant to strengthen revenue and state capacity.

He cited government efforts in agriculture, education, health and transport, adding that foreign engagements have helped attract investment and improve security cooperation.
