The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced significant achievements in its nationwide counter-insurgency and anti-banditry operations for the month of September 2025, revealing that troops neutralised several terrorists, arrested 450 suspects, and rescued 180 kidnapped victims across multiple theatres of operation.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, detailing the successes recorded by various military formations under the joint operations.
According to Kangye, a total of 39 terrorists voluntarily surrendered to troops, while the military also recovered 63 assorted firearms and 4,475 rounds of ammunition within the period under review. Other items recovered included grenades, improvised explosive device (IED) components, communication gadgets, vehicles, motorcycles, and various logistics supplies used by insurgents.
In the North East, troops under Operation HADIN KAI sustained their offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa States. The operations, he said, led to the elimination of numerous terrorists and the arrest of 21 collaborators, informants, and sympathisers, with large quantities of arms and ammunition recovered in Konduga, Gwoza, Mafa, Monguno, Damboa, Biu, and Kukawa.
Kangye added that the troops dismantled several terrorist camps, intercepted logistics networks, and supported the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.
In the North West, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out clearance operations in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Kaduna States, killing several bandits and arresting 46 suspects, including a notorious terrorist kingpin identified as Ali Saidu. A total of 13 kidnapped victims were rescued, while key bandit supply routes in Maradun, Isa, and Sabon Birni LGAs were disrupted.
Under Operation ENDURING PEACE, troops responded to distress calls and conducted clearance operations in Plateau and Kaduna States, neutralising extremists, arresting 12 suspects, and rescuing four kidnapped victims.
Similarly, Operation WHIRL STROKE forces operating in Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa States, and parts of the FCT neutralised criminals, arrested six suspects, and rescued two kidnap victims.
In the South East, troops of Operation UDO KA intensified security efforts in Anambra and Imo States, where they neutralised terrorists and arrested four suspects, recovering weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and IEDs.
Maj.-Gen. Kangye reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to maintaining peace and stability across Nigeria, working in close synergy with other security agencies and hybrid forces.
“Our gallant troops will continue to sustain offensive operations and intelligence-driven missions until lasting peace is achieved in all troubled parts of the country,” he assured.
