The Nigerian Navy has strengthened its relationship with host communities through a large-scale free medical and educational outreach that benefited over 2,000 residents of Ozuoba in Obio/Akpor LGA, Rivers State. The programme, organised by the Nigerian Navy Hospital Borikiri and Nigerian Navy Secondary School Port Harcourt, featured free consultations, eye tests, dental checks, drugs, vaccinations, deworming, mosquito nets, and health education. Schoolchildren also received textbooks, exercise books, and writing materials.
Commander of the Nigerian Navy Hospital Borikiri, Surg Capt Magnus Elendu, reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to civil–military cooperation, describing the outreach as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and end-of-year activities. Community leaders, including the paramount ruler of Akpor Kingdom, Eze Levi Orlu-Oriebe, praised the initiative, noting its impact on health, education, and community development.
