Nigerian Man Seeks Help for Mother’s Hospital Bill After Losing Money to Betting

A Nigerian man has stirred conversations online after publicly seeking financial help to pay his mother’s hospital bill, just hours after losing a large sum of money to sports betting.

The young man, identified as @thomsincruz23 on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that he needed ₦35,000 to settle his mother’s medical bill but was left helpless after losing ₦45,000 to gambling.

In a heartfelt post, he pleaded for urgent support, fearing the worst if the hospital bill was not paid in time.

“I don’t know what to do now. I just lost 45k to gambling today. Now I can’t even pay 35k for my mom’s hospital bills. I can’t even go to the hospital right now and my mom is dying. Somebody please help me, I don’t want to lose my mom,” he wrote.

The emotional appeal quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians online. While some sympathized with his situation and offered to help, others criticized him for his reckless gambling habit, pointing out that the money he wasted could have saved his mother’s life.

This incident has sparked broader discussions about the dangers of gambling addiction and its devastating impact on families.
