Nigerian Family Declared Wanted Over #EndSARS Protest Footag

In a new development surrounding the 2020 #EndSARS demonstrations, security operatives have reportedly declared an entire Nigerian family wanted. The family, identified as the Soremekuns, is accused of recording and circulating a viral video showing soldiers allegedly firing at unarmed protesters during the height of the October 2020 protests.

According to top security sources, the primary target of the warrant is Ismail Olanrewaju Soremekun, a civil rights activist described as one of the protest coordinators. Authorities claim he recorded the controversial footage that exposed alleged military actions against peaceful demonstrators.

Investigations reveal that the video, which was shared among activist networks, quickly drew the attention of security agencies. Shortly afterward, Ismail was declared wanted, and the search later extended to his wife, Hannah Olufunke Soremekun, and their children, after the family allegedly fled their residence at No. 14, Oke-Ola Street, Agbowo, Ibadan. Reports indicate that they left Nigeria on 27 November 2020 to evade arrest.

Human rights organizations have since raised concerns, describing the development as a disturbing continuation of state clampdowns on individuals associated with the #EndSARS protests.
Rights advocates warn that such actions undermine Nigeria’s democracy and threaten citizens’ fundamental rights to free expression and peaceful assembly.
