Nigeria Targets 7-Day Cargo Dwell Time by 2026 as Shettima Pushes New Business Reforms

Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that Nigeria is working to reduce cargo dwell time from the current average of 21 days to seven days by 2026. Speaking at the 2025 PEBEC Awards in Abuja, Shettima said the progress recorded through joint inspections at the ports shows that the target is achievable.

He emphasised that excellence in public service must be deliberate, driven by discipline, accountability, and collaboration. Shettima praised the contributions of ministries, departments, and agencies implementing reforms under PEBEC, describing their efforts as vital to restoring investor confidence.

He highlighted the improved cooperation among port agencies through the Port Service Efficiency Committee, calling it a model for accelerating economic growth.

Shettima urged public institutions to deepen transparency and efficiency in 2026, while PEBEC Director General Zahrah Mustapha Audu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Nigeria globally competitive for business.
