A fire outbreak in the early hours of New Year’s Day has destroyed several electronics shops in Ikotun, Lagos State, leaving traders with heavy losses. The incident occurred in a commercial building beside the GUO Transport Company terminal, where valuable goods were completely consumed by the blaze.
Household items including television sets, washing machines, and power generators were among properties destroyed. Residents in the area reportedly mobilised quickly, using water to prevent the fire from spreading before the arrival of emergency responders.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service later brought the situation under control, with residents praising their swift intervention for averting a wider disaster. No casualties were recorded, while authorities cordoned off the affected area. Although the cause remains unconfirmed, an electrical fault is suspected.
