Netanyahu Files Extraordinary 111-Page Pardon Request to Israeli President

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally submitted a 111-page presidential pardon request to President Isaac Herzog, marking one of the most significant legal moves of his ongoing corruption trial. The application, prepared by his attorney Amit Haddad and accompanied by a personal letter signed by Netanyahu, was delivered to the President’s Residence and made public.

Herzog’s office confirmed that the Justice Ministry’s Pardons Department will now review the request, gather inputs from relevant authorities, and forward recommendations to the president’s legal adviser. The office described the appeal as “extraordinary” with major implications.

Under Israeli law, the president may grant pardons—even before legal proceedings conclude—if it serves the public interest. Netanyahu is currently facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three separate cases. Despite earlier saying he would not seek a pardon if it required admitting guilt, the request has now been filed. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has also urged Herzog to grant the pardon.
