The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved N100 billion, pending President Bola Tinubu’s final ratification, for the rehabilitation of police and security training institutions across Nigeria. The approval follows recommendations from an ad-hoc committee led by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who reported that most facilities are in deplorable condition.
At its 154th meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, NEC also endorsed N2.6 billion for consultancy services for the project. Shettima emphasised that governance must now be defined by visible results, urging governors to ensure that economic reforms translate into real improvements for citizens.
Council also reviewed progress on polio eradication, reporting a 39% national decline in cVPV2 cases, with Kano and Katsina recording major reductions. NEC further backed the settlement of ₦185bn gas-supply debts to producers to boost domestic gas availability.
