Senator Ali Ndume has commended the Federal Government and Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, over the successful return and resettlement of Nigerians displaced by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgency from Cameroon.
Ndume described the repatriation of refugees, many of whom spent over a decade in exile, as a major milestone in rebuilding communities destroyed by insurgency, especially in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The return followed a tripartite agreement between the Federal Government, Borno State Government and the Government of Cameroon, with support from the UNHCR. The agreement, signed in 2017, ensures the safe, voluntary and dignified return of refugees from the Minawao camp in Cameroon.
Commending the Tinubu administration, Ndume praised Governor Zulum for sustaining collaboration with federal authorities and the UN to accelerate resettlement. He also lauded the restoration of electricity in Gwoza, noting it fulfilled a long-standing promise after over 10 years of darkness.
