Navy Officer’s Assassination Claim Disputed

Reports that Naval officer A.M. Yerima narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja have been dismissed by the Nigerian Police. However, Lere Olayinka, aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has shared his perspective on the incident.

On Sunday, news circulated that Yerima narrowly avoided an assassination attempt. The following Monday morning, the Nigerian Police refuted these claims.

Olayinka offered his account of the events. He stated: “You were driving a car without a PLATE NUMBER. The car was TINTED.

“At a Police Checkpoint, you were stopped. You were asked to wind down, YOU REFUSED. After you eventually complied, you were asked to identify yourself, YOU REFUSED.

“Instead, you were calling other Naval Officers while insulting the Policemen on official duty. The Policemen didn’t allow you to proceed until your colleagues arrived to identify you.

“You then left and claimed to have escaped an assassination. So, the Policemen who detained you until your colleagues identified you were the ones allegedly attempting assassination?

“Or was it part of a directive for you to use an UNREGISTERED CAR and refuse to identify yourself when asked by the Police? Like I said earlier, when you are overly praised by Social Media people…”
