NAFDAC Smashes Illegal Factory in Abuja: Fake Water & Dangerous Chemicals Flooding Market Exposed!

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed an illegal chemical and water packaging factory in Damangaza, Apo Waru, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Thursday, followed intelligence reports of unregulated manufacturing activities in the area.

Mr. Embugushiki Godiya, Head of NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Unit in Abuja, confirmed the operation. He revealed that the water packaging facility was running at night to evade detection, producing unapproved sachet water with a fake registration number. Inspectors discovered 88 bags of packaged water and clear signs of unauthorized production.

In the same district, officials uncovered an illegal chemical laboratory linked to one Mr. Ikechukwu Elijah. Investigators found he had been producing disinfectants, air fresheners, and even banned substances without approval. Although Elijah initially denied involvement, evidence — including his ID card — tied him to the facility.

The raid led to the seizure of sealing machines, chemical containers, and finished products. Elijah and one of his workers were arrested, while the factory was sealed pending prosecution.

Godiya stressed that landlords who knowingly allow their premises to be used for such activities risk prosecution. “This amounts to aiding and abetting, and it is punishable by law,” he warned.

NAFDAC vowed to dismantle the supply chain of the fake products, stressing its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring regulatory compliance in the FCT.
