The Nigerian military has taken control of the Oke-Isegun community in Eruku, Kwara State, following a deadly attack by bandits on worshippers at the CAC Church on Tuesday. The assault resulted in the death of three individuals and the abduction of several worshippers.
According to a report from Vanguard, community spokesman Ayeni Olanipekun confirmed the military’s intervention and noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, was present in Eruku with his team.
“At this moment, soldiers have secured Eruku, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ojo Adekimi, is also on the ground with his team. We have received information that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sanctioned their deployment to the community,” Olanipekun stated.
He further mentioned, “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is reportedly on his way to Eruku with his team.”
Discussing the ongoing rescue operations, Olanipekun noted that several local hunters who were dispatched to search the surrounding forests have yet to return, emphasizing that efforts are still in progress.
A video that circulated widely showed bandits firing indiscriminately inside the church, with both elderly and younger worshippers attempting to seek cover. The video also depicted worshippers being chased into smaller rooms within the church, while other bandits were seen gathering handbags left behind by the fleeing congregants.
