Mike Arnold Blasts Tinubu Over Reno Omokri’s Ambassadorial Nomination

Former Mayor of Blanco, Texas, Mike Arnold, has strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu for including Reno Omokri among the 32 newly submitted ambassadorial nominees. Arnold, known for his longtime opposition to Omokri, accused him of downplaying Christian persecution in Nigeria and described the nomination as damaging to national integrity.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Arnold said Tinubu’s choices—particularly Omokri and former minister Femi Fani-Kayode—were “tone deaf,” alleging that the President prioritised loyalty above competence. He argued the appointments send the wrong message to young Nigerians about values and leadership.

Tinubu had earlier forwarded a fresh batch of 32 nominees—15 career and 17 non-career— to the Senate for confirmation. Arnold went further to label the appointments as evidence of poor governance and weakening unity in the country.
