In a significant political shift, more than 10,000 members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and other political parties have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State. The mass defection occurred on Saturday, May 13, 2025, during the official unveiling of the ADC in Agatu, led by the State Chairman, Terngu Tsegba.
The event attracted a large crowd of defectors, political supporters, and admirers of Sir John Ngbede, a prominent political figure in the region. Ngbede, who has held various political positions including former Commissioner of Water Resources and ex-Chairman of Agatu LGA, was unveiled as the leader of the ADC in Agatu. In a show of commitment, he donated a building to serve as the new ADC secretariat in the area.
During his address, Tsegba praised the local party leadership for organizing what he termed the largest unveiling event in Benue State, highlighting Ngbede’s grassroots mobilization efforts. He expressed confidence that the ADC is prepared to win all elective seats in Agatu LGA, emphasizing the party’s dedication to inclusiveness, stability, and internal democracy.
Ngbede declared the end of PDP and APC dominance in Agatu, a statement that resonated with the enthusiastic crowd. He also stressed that the ADC would prioritize community development initiatives to foster meaningful change for the people of Agatu.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by several political dignitaries, including Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, State Secretary; Hon. Chris Adaba Aba, immediate past PDP Chairman; and Hon. David Adejoh Olofu, former Commissioner of Finance. Their presence underscored the ADC’s growing influence and commitment to grassroots engagement in the region.
This large turnout of defectors and dignitaries signals a notable political transformation in Benue South, with the ADC emerging as a formidable alternative to the PDP and APC.
