For one Nigerian man, Usman Zannah, an ill-fated test of his girlfriend’s loyalty eight years ago has resulted in a bizarre twist of fate: his best friend, Aliyu, is now happily married to the woman, and they have three children together.
Usman first shared the unusual story in 2019, recounting that the incident began in 2017 when he tasked Aliyu with a mission: to attempt to woo his then-girlfriend to gauge her faithfulness.
The plan, however, backfired spectacularly. The woman readily accepted Aliyu’s advances, and what was intended as a simple loyalty check rapidly spiraled into a serious romantic relationship between the two.
Usman’s initial 2019 tweet revealed the stunning conclusion: “Today has marked exactly 2years since I sent my best friend Aliyu to go and try to date my girlfriend to test and confirm if she can accept any other man over me. They are now married with 1 child,” he wrote.
In a recent update posted on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Usman revisited the viral story to provide a fresh update on the unlikely couple. According to him, the family has grown significantly since his last confession. Aliyu and his former girlfriend are now blessed with three children.
The story has since become a cautionary tale on social media, prompting Nigerians to debate the wisdom of “testing” a partner’s fidelity.
