Troops from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have achieved a significant milestone in Kogi State as part of Operation ACCORD III. In a coordinated effort with the Other Hybrid Forces (OHF), the soldiers successfully eliminated notorious bandit kingpin Babangida Kachalla during a special operation.
This breakthrough was announced in a statement released on Saturday by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the Brigade’s spokesman. The operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the movement of bandits in the Ofere Forest and Ayetoro Gbede area on Thursday, September 11.
“On September 11, 2025, based on reliable intelligence, the combined troops set an ambush at a suspected bandit crossing point. Although initial contact was not made, the troops encountered an ambush staged by the criminals while withdrawing to base,” Abdullahi explained.
In the ensuing firefight, the troops engaged the bandits with superior firepower, successfully neutralizing one of them. The operation also led to the recovery of significant items, including one fully loaded magazine, 31 mobile phones, a blood pressure machine, packs of Tramadol, fetish charms, and ₦16,000 in cash.
“Bloodstains observed at the scene indicated that several other bandits escaped with gunshot wounds. Subsequent intelligence confirmed that among those who fled was Babangida Kachalla, who served as the second-in-command to Kachala Shuaibu, later confirmed dead,” the statement added.
Lieutenant Abdullahi emphasized that the troops of Operation ACCORD III are committed to continuing their offensive against criminal elements. “The morale and fighting efficiency of the troops remain high, and they will maintain unrelenting patrols and ambushes to restore peace in Kogi State,” he stated.
