Abia State Governor Alex Otti has revealed that the Labour Party (LP) regrets the exit of its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as key details from a crucial NEC meeting in Abuja emerge.
Speaking after the meeting, Otti said the party resolved to begin nationwide congresses in March, followed by a national convention, as part of efforts to reposition LP after recent leadership changes. He also announced plans for membership revalidation and fresh registration, with a special committee already set up.
Otti admitted the party has lost some members to defection, including lawmakers, but insisted LP remains strong and focused. He disclosed that a reconciliation committee would be constituted to bring back aggrieved members, appealing to former chairman Julius Abure and his supporters to return and embrace peace.
While expressing regret over Peter Obi’s Labour Party exit, Otti wished him well and reassured Nigerians that LP’s doors remain open to new members. He added that the party will not participate in the upcoming FCT council elections, but is determined to rebuild and emerge stronger.
