Liverpool to Pay Late Striker Diogo Jota’s £14m Contract to Family After Tragic Death

Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has confirmed that the club will honor the remainder of late striker Diogo Jota’s contract, paying the full value to his wife and three children.

Jota tragically lost his life in a car accident on July 3 in Northern Spain, alongside his brother, Andre Silva. He was just 28 years old.

Liverpool Show Support to Jota’s Family

Jota, survived by his wife Rute Cardoso and their three young children, had two years left on his Anfield contract, worth approximately £14 million.

Slot praised Liverpool’s owners for their response, describing it as a remarkable act of compassion that goes beyond what is common in football.

“I said how proud I felt about how the fans reacted but also the ownership,” Slot told TNT Sports.

“Owners are mainly criticised, like managers, but the way they’ve handled this situation, by paying his wife and his children all the money from the contract [is commendable]. Maybe people think it’s normal, but it is not in football.”

A Life Cut Short

Jota was earning around £140,000 per week before the tragedy struck. His death has left a massive void both for his family and the football world.

The Portugal international joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and quickly became a fan favorite for his attacking prowess, work rate, and goal-scoring abilities.
