Liverpool Smash British Transfer Record to Sign Alexander Isak in £125M Blockbuster Deal

Liverpool have finally secured their dream signing after completing a British-record £125 million deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, ending one of the summer’s most dramatic transfer sagas.

The 25-year-old Sweden international signed a six-year contract with the Premier League champions on Monday, marking the biggest transfer fee ever paid by a British club.

“I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here, but I’m super-happy to be part of this team, this club, and everything it stands for,” Isak told Liverpool’s website after completing his medical at Anfield.

The record-breaking deal comes after Newcastle initially rejected Liverpool’s £110 million bid in August. Isak, determined to push through the move, refused to join Eddie Howe’s squad for pre-season, training instead at his former club Real Sociedad.

Despite Howe’s repeated insistence that he wanted to keep his top scorer, Newcastle’s signing of Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade cleared the way for Isak to finally move to Anfield.

Isak arrives after a sensational season, scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances, leading Newcastle to a Champions League spot and helping end their 56-year trophy drought with a League Cup victory – ironically against Liverpool.

Liverpool’s summer spending spree, including Florian Wirtz (£100m), Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Giovanni Leoni, now totals £416 million – surpassing Chelsea’s record £400 million outlay in 2023.

With Isak joining Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, and others in a formidable front line, manager Arne Slot now faces the challenge of delivering another Premier League crown – and a potential seventh Champions League title.

If the Reds defend their title this season, they will become the most successful team in English top-flight history with 21 titles, overtaking Manchester United.

The Isak era at Anfield has begun – and all eyes are now on whether the record-breaking striker can deliver glory.
