LIRS Fixes January 31 Deadline For 2025 Tax Returns In Lagos

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced January 31, 2026, as the deadline for all employers in the state to file their annual tax returns for the 2025 financial year.

In a statement signed by its Executive Chairman, Dr Ayodele Subair, LIRS said the directive is in line with the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. Employers are required to submit detailed records of emoluments and compensation paid to employees, as well as payments made to vendors, consultants, and service providers, with evidence that all applicable taxes have been fully remitted.

Subair stressed that filing annual tax returns is a mandatory legal obligation and warned that defaulting employers will face statutory sanctions, including administrative penalties. He cited Section 14 of the Act, which mandates employers to file returns of taxes deducted and remitted no later than January 31 each year.

LIRS urged employers to prioritise early and accurate compliance as part of responsible business practice.
