Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has publicly addressed the backlash trailing her earlier comment about taking her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa, to a nightclub.
The actress faced heavy criticism online after a viral clip showed her saying she had introduced her teenage daughter to clubbing and given her alcohol.
In a recent video shared on her Instagram page, Laide clarified that her words were misinterpreted, explaining that she never gave her daughter alcohol and that her statement during the interview was a “slip of tongue.”
“I have not been able to concentrate since morning because of the accusations of me introducing my teenage daughter, Similoluwa, to alcohol. My phone has been buzzing since. She is a minor and she doesn’t take alcohol. I took her to the club but no alcohol,” Bakare stated.
The actress went on to apologise for the misunderstanding, saying she was unaware she mentioned alcohol in the initial interview.
“I didn’t know I said it in the interview that I gave her alcohol. It was a slip of tongue. I am sorry to Simi and to the parents who felt I was wrong with that step. This is why I hardly grant interviews. I am sorry for the blunder,” she added.
Since the apology, the tension around the issue has eased, with fans and well-wishers praising her for taking responsibility and clarifying the situation.
