Lagos Soldier Killed by Mentally Unstable Attacker

The Nigerian Army has detailed the tragic death of a soldier who died from severe injuries inflicted by a mentally unstable individual in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

According to an official statement from the Army, the incident took place on 16 November 2025 at around 4:00 pm during an internal security mission.

The soldier, assigned to help defuse a tense situation in the community, was attacked with a heavy stick, suffering critical head injuries.

“The soldier was struck on the head by a mentally unstable person while attempting to restore order in Imota. Colleagues at the scene swiftly neutralized the attacker and recovered the soldier’s weapon,” the statement noted.

The injured soldier was immediately transported to Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was declared dead.

He was laid to rest according to Islamic rites, attended by the Acting Commanding Officer and other officers from the 81 Division.

The Nigerian Army expressed condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, recognizing his dedication and service to the nation.

An official investigation has been initiated by the 81 Division to uncover the full circumstances of the soldier’s death.

The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Nigerian Army.

“The Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army has acknowledged the viral video concerning this incident. While the investigation continues, preliminary information regarding the day’s events has been provided,” the statement added.
