History and culture blended on Lagos Island as the King Kosoko Royal Family formally declared veteran actor Jide Kosoko as the Oloja of Lagos-elect. The announcement was made at the historic King Kosoko Palace, Ereko, before a large gathering of royals and supporters.
The stool became vacant after the death of Chief Adebola Ige in 2017. Speaking for the family, the Olori Ebi General, Mrs Mutiat Ali-Balogun, affirmed Kosoko’s emergence in line with palace traditions, supported by senior royal figures and accompanied by prayers and rites.
However, the declaration has reopened a long-running succession dispute. Another royal branch, the Akinsanya Olojo Family, insists its candidate was selected years earlier and has renewed appeals to the Lagos State Government. As both claims draw attention, all eyes are now on official approval and traditional installation processes that will determine the final outcome.
