Kwara SSG Warns Civil Servants Against Lobbying for Service Extension

The Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, has frowned at the growing trend of civil servants lobbying for service extension after reaching their retirement age, describing it as dishonourable and detrimental to career progression in the state civil service.

Prof. Jibril made the remark during a send-forth ceremony organised for recently retired staff of the Governor’s Office in Ilorin. He noted that the practice of lobbying to remain in service beyond the statutory retirement age has tarnished the image and dignity of the public service.

“Those lobbying for service extension after their due time lose their respect and pride among fellow civil servants and the public. Such acts also block opportunities for others to grow,” he warned.

The SSG urged workers to embrace honour, discipline, and contentment, adding that retirement should be seen as a transition to a new phase of life, not an end.

In her remarks, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mrs. Olubukola Babalola, congratulated the retirees for their meritorious service and advised them to make productive use of their experience.

Also speaking, the Acting Head of Service, Dr. Olufunke Mercy Shittu, commended the retirees for their forthrightness and assured that the state government would continue to benefit from their wealth of experience.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary (General Service), Abdulganiyu Shuaib Yitta, and the State Solicitor General, Hajia Kikelomo Sabitiyu Grillo, applauded the Governor’s Office for upholding the tradition of honouring retirees despite economic challenges.

The retirees honoured at the event include Dr. Idowu Anu (Executive Director, ECA), Adisa Tunde Mohammed (Director, Special Service), Mrs. Dada Florence (Staff Officer), Mrs. Maria Akinola (Store Officer), Mrs. Esther Adefila, Alhaja Gambari Memunat Issa, and Mrs. Mopelola Animashaun (Cadre Officers).
