Kwara Government Seals Cold Room Selling Spoilt Fish in Ilorin

The Kwara State Ministry of Environment has sealed a cold room in Ilorin, the state capital, after it was discovered selling spoilt fish to unsuspecting members of the public.

Confirming the development on Saturday, the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, said enforcement officers acted swiftly by confiscating the contaminated fish and sealing the premises to prevent further sales.

Buge described the act as inhuman, ungodly, and unlawful, warning business owners across the state to desist from selling unhealthy or unsafe food items to the public.

“Our officers have done the needful by halting further sale, confiscating the items, and sealing the premises,” she stated. “We will not tolerate acts that endanger public health in Kwara State.”

The commissioner also praised residents for their active participation in the monthly environmental sanitation and bush clearing exercise, urging them to continue prioritising cleanliness and public health.

She encouraged citizens to report any suspicious or unhygienic activities to the Ministry of Environment or the nearest law enforcement agency.

The Saturday sanitation exercise was jointly monitored by Omotosho AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Kwara State House Committee on Environment, and Honourable Jide Aina, the General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA). The officials also engaged various community groups and associations to promote greater participation in environmental cleanliness across the state.
