The New Nigeria Peoples Party has denied reports suggesting that Rabiu Kwankwaso or members of the Kwankwasiyya movement are planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress. Speaking on national television, NNPP Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson said Kwankwaso has neither agreed nor authorised anyone to move to the APC.
Johnson also dismissed claims that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has concluded plans to leave the party, noting that the governor has not informed the party’s leadership of any such decision. He warned that defecting to another party does not automatically guarantee political success, especially with intense internal rivalries already present.
According to him, the Kwankwasiyya movement remains united, stressing that any individual defection would weaken personal ambition rather than strengthen political relevance. The party insists it remains focused despite internal tensions.
