The absence of NNPP national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, from Kano State’s 2026 New Year celebration has intensified speculations of a growing crisis within the party. The annual event, once a signature programme of Kwankwaso’s administration, was hosted by Governor Abba Yusuf without his political mentor in attendance.
Party insiders linked the development to internal tensions, including rumours of Governor Yusuf’s alleged talks with the APC ahead of forthcoming party congresses. Kwankwaso, who had never missed the event in previous years, was said to be unhappy over the unfolding situation.
At the venue, supporters openly chanted Kwankwaso’s name, expressing disappointment over his absence. Addressing the crowd, Governor Yusuf declared 2026 as a year focused on youth empowerment, job creation, peaceful coexistence and expanded access to education across Kano State.
