Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has defended Nigeria’s collaboration with the United States in recent airstrikes against terrorists, insisting no responsible government would reject such support.
Reacting to public debates over the Christmas Day airstrikes in parts of Sokoto, Keyamo said the priority should be eliminating terrorism, not political sentiments. Writing on X, he described it as “stupid” for any sane government to turn down help when lives and communities are under threat.
Using a strong analogy, the minister said rejecting assistance in such circumstances is like refusing firefighters when a house is on fire. He stressed that national safety must come before concerns about sovereignty.
The United States has confirmed the strikes, targeting ISIS-affiliated groups, with former President Donald Trump declaring the operation a success.
