Kelvin Emmanuel Slams Anti-Corruption Agencies Over Oil Sector Silence

Petroleum economist, Kelvin Emmanuel, has criticised Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies over what he described as their failure to act on allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of office within the oil and refinery sector. Speaking on ARISE News, Emmanuel questioned the political will to hold powerful regulators accountable, saying past experiences show investigations rarely lead to consequences.

He expressed concern over the silence of agencies like the EFCC on alleged irregularities, including billions of dollars reportedly spent on refinery maintenance without results. Emmanuel argued that allegations raised by major taxpayers should not be ignored, stressing that public officers’ lifestyles must align with declared earnings and asset records.

He called for a thorough review of asset declarations, tax records, and financial histories of officials, noting that corruption in the sector reflects deeper structural problems. Emmanuel warned that without institutional independence and consistency, public trust in Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight will continue to erode.
