In a dramatic diplomatic appeal, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has written an open letter to United States President Donald Trump. Kanu alleges that the mass killing of Christians, which President Trump has condemned in Northern Nigeria, has now metastasized into the South-East, targeting Igbos.
In the letter, Kanu, who describes himself as a believer in Judeo-Christian values, expressed gratitude for Trump’s recent strong stance on protecting Nigeria’s Christian population. He detailed his own plight, including four alleged assassination attempts and his “illegal rendition” from Kenya, for which he remains in solitary detention.
Kanu asserted that the Nigerian military is the “primary perpetrator” of a hidden genocide in the Igbo heartland, operating under the guise of counter-terrorism. He accused the government of weaponizing insecurity, orchestrating attacks by “unknown gunmen,” and then blaming IPOB to justify a systematic extermination campaign against his people.
