The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has assured that the people of Kano State and Northern Nigeria will repay President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goodwill and developmental strides with massive political support in the 2027 general elections.
Barau made the pledge during the launch of his annual undergraduate scholarship programme at the newly renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. His Media Aide, Ismail Mudashir, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
The event drew top political and academic personalities, including the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata; Kano APC Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas; Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kadage; and ASUU Chairman, Comrade Ado Muhammad Abdullahi — all of whom applauded President Tinubu’s ongoing interventions in Northern Nigeria.
Senator Barau expressed gratitude to the President for approving the upgrade of the institution from a college to a full-fledged university — a request that had lingered for nearly a decade.
“I would like to thank our President, who loves Kano, Northern Nigeria, and the entire country. He graciously approved our long-standing request to upgrade this institution, and for that, we remain deeply grateful,” Barau said.
He further commended Tinubu for renaming the university after the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, a respected Kano statesman and nationalist, describing it as a gesture that honours the region’s heritage and values.
“When I presented the request to name this institution after our elder statesman, President Tinubu approved it immediately,” he added.
Barau, who referred to the President as the “grandfather” of the university and himself as its “father,” also announced 1,000 scholarships for students from Kano North Senatorial District, with plans to extend the scheme statewide.
“Education is the bedrock of every society,” he noted. “If I can continue my PhD pursuit, no youth should relent in seeking knowledge.”
