Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reportedly met President Bola Tinubu in France following a secret late-night meeting with his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, amid speculations of a planned defection to the APC.
Sources said the closed-door meeting with Kwankwaso took place at his Miller Road residence in Kano, where Yusuf allegedly made a last-minute attempt to persuade the former governor to join the ruling party. The move was said to be linked to Tinubu’s wider political strategy.
However, Kwankwaso reportedly rejected the overture and later issued a public statement distancing himself from any defection, insisting he had “no price tag.” Insiders disclosed that Yusuf’s defection plan has faced strong resistance from Kwankwasiyya supporters, who remain loyal to Kwankwaso despite defections by some NNPP lawmakers.
Following the failed Kano talks, Yusuf reportedly travelled to France to brief President Tinubu and discuss the next political steps, as APC leaders closely monitor unfolding developments in Kano.
