Political tension is rising in Kano following the defection of Governor Abba Yusuf from the New Nigerian Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress. Reacting strongly, NNPP chieftain Buba Galadima described the move as the “worst betrayal in the world,” claiming it should qualify for a Guinness World Record.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Galadima alleged that the governor’s decision was driven by personal interest rather than the mandate of Kano voters. He argued that the defection represents a deep betrayal of trust, adding that January 23 should be remembered as a symbolic “World Betrayal Day.”
An emotional Galadima, who said he is over 75 years old, noted that the development affected him deeply, stressing that such political actions weaken public confidence. In a dramatic comparison, he ranked the defection alongside historic betrayals, citing Judas Iscariot and Brutus. Governor Yusuf formally rejoined the APC on Monday after quitting the NNPP last week, a move that continues to spark heated reactions nationwide.
