Kano Politics Shake As Abba Yusuf Dumps NNPP, Aide Resigns

Political tension is rising in Kano State following the exit of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party. One of the immediate fallouts is the resignation of his Special Adviser, Sunusi Kwankwaso.

Sunusi announced his decision on Friday through a video shared on Facebook, explaining that his resignation was prompted by reports that the governor had left the NNPP and was set to align with the All Progressives Congress. He disclosed that earlier attempts to submit a formal resignation letter through official channels were unsuccessful.

According to him, the letter was also rejected by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, forcing him to formally address the public. Sunusi expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the last two years but firmly ruled out joining the APC. He reaffirmed his loyalty to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya movement.

The development adds to growing political uncertainty in Kano State, as more realignments are expected following the governor’s party switch.
