Former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused the Kano State Government of compelling officials and local council chairmen to sign documents indicating defection to the APC. In a public statement, Kwankwaso described the reports as disturbing, warning that such actions threaten democratic norms in Kano politics.
He claimed affected officials were being pressured to align with either the Gandujiyya or Kwankwasiyya camps, advising them to comply if necessary to avoid victimisation. The allegation has intensified debate around Kwankwaso Kano defection claims and rising political tension in the state.
The Kano State Government denied the accusation, insisting APC membership is voluntary. Information Commissioner Ibrahim Waiya said no official was forced to defect.
Amid the controversy, Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo reaffirmed his loyalty to Kwankwaso, while other NNPP leaders also pledged support, underscoring internal resistance to Kano APC defection rumours.
