The Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, citing alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations to the party.
The announcement was made on Saturday during a press briefing in Kano by the state chairman of the NNPP, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa.
According to Dungurawa, Jibrin’s repeated public criticism of the party and its leadership left the NNPP with no choice but to expel him. He accused the lawmaker of biting the hand that lifted his political career.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” the chairman said.
The decision comes less than 24 hours after Jibrin hinted that his exit from the NNPP was imminent, telling journalists that “nobody should be surprised” if he decides to leave.
Dungurawa revealed that a reconciliation committee had been set up after Jibrin’s controversial appearance on Channels Television but said his subsequent remarks showed he had “crossed the line.”
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the chairman stated.
The NNPP also accused Jibrin of failing to pay his mandatory dues and vowed to take legal action to recover the debt.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” Dungurawa declared.
On speculations that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the chairman dismissed any concerns, stressing that Kwankwasiyya’s strength is not tied to any individual.
“Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and our strength is in unity, not in one person,” he added.
The dramatic expulsion marks another major shake-up in Kano politics as the battle for influence ahead of 2027 intensifies.
