Kano Politics: ‘Betraying Kwankwaso Never Ends Well’ — Kwankwasiyya Chieftain

A senior figure in the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Saddam Sani Umar, has dismissed claims that reports of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s possible defection to the APC would weaken Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political influence in Kano and beyond. Speaking to Daily Trust, Umar described the speculation as exaggerated, insisting Kwankwaso remains a dominant national figure with unmatched grassroots support.

Umar warned that history shows abandoning Kwankwaso’s political structure often comes with consequences, citing past political realignments in Kano. He stressed that Yusuf’s emergence as governor in 2023 was largely driven by Kwankwaso’s influence, despite the movement lacking control of state structures at the time.

According to him, the Kwankwasiyya Movement is not dependent on government resources and will remain intact regardless of political shifts. Umar further claimed that the APC’s real interest is Kwankwaso, not Yusuf, adding that the movement’s red cap ideology remains a powerful political symbol in Kano politics.
