Kajuru Abductions Spark Outrage As CAN Faults Police Response

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all persons abducted in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

CAN raised concerns over what it described as poor communication by the Nigeria Police Force following the incident. In a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the association faulted the initial dismissal of reports surrounding the abductions, noting that it caused confusion, fear and distrust among affected families and communities.

According to CAN, the handling of the situation unfairly questioned the credibility of nearly 170 worshippers, clergy members and eyewitnesses who reported the incident. The group stressed that while preventing public panic is important, official statements must show empathy and seriousness, especially when lives are at risk.

CAN, however, commended the Inspector-General of Police for later deploying operational and intelligence assets to the area. It urged stronger coordination, improved verification processes and renewed urgency in tackling insecurity nationwide.
