The call for justice in the tragic death of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has taken a fresh turn as his father, Joseph Aloba, has urged the Lagos State Government to prosecute all those indicted in the Coroner’s Inquest.
In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), through his lawyer Wahab Shittu (SAN), Mr. Aloba demanded the prosecution of Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, alongside others directly or indirectly linked to the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
Father’s Demands
Aloba specifically called for the immediate prosecution of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered an injection to Mohbad before his passing. He also urged the state to bring charges against those present in the apartment at the time of the incident, including individuals who facilitated the nurse’s invitation or failed to rush Mohbad to a proper medical facility.
Coroner’s Findings
The Coroner, Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, had in July 2025 ruled that the nurse’s actions were both “unlawful and professionally negligent.” The report further faulted Mohbad’s wife for keeping him at home under questionable treatment instead of taking him to a hospital.
The Coroner recommended that Ogedengbe face criminal prosecution for medical negligence, citing her injection of Mohbad without a doctor’s prescription.
Government’s Silence
Despite the clear findings, more than two months have passed without the Lagos State Government filing any charges. Aloba’s lawyer expressed concern that the delay undermines justice and fuels public distrust.
Final Ultimatum
In the petition, Shittu gave the Attorney-General 14 days to file the necessary charges, stressing that the case’s high sensitivity and public interest demand urgent action.
He added that if the Lagos State Government fails to prosecute, the family will request legal fiat to handle the case themselves in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. Our client, as a bereaved father, cannot rest until those responsible for his son’s death face the full weight of the law,” Shittu stated.
