Japan Denies Special Visa Claims Linked to JICA Africa Hometown Initiative

The Japanese government has dismissed claims that the “JICA Africa Hometown” initiative provides special visas or immigration benefits to Nigerians or other Africans.

In a statement on Monday, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that reports alleging a new visa category for Nigerians relocating to Kisarazu city are false.

The programme, launched during the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, is aimed at strengthening partnerships between African nations and Japanese cities through cultural exchange, development projects, and cooperation programmes.

Officials stressed that the initiative does not involve immigration or special visa schemes and urged the public to rely on accurate reports.
