Jamie Carragher Makes U-Turn, Apologises for Underrating Arsenal Star Eberechi Eze

Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has publicly apologised to Arsenal midfielder Eberechi Eze after previously underestimating the 26-year-old’s impact at the Emirates.

Carragher admitted he has now fully embraced the belief that Eze could be the key figure capable of firing Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years. His change of heart followed Eze’s remarkable hat-trick in Arsenal’s dominant 4–1 victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

Eze Proving His Worth in Ødegaard’s Absence

Eze, who was close to joining Tottenham last summer before Arsenal hijacked the deal, has flourished since reuniting with his boyhood club. With captain Martin Ødegaard sidelined due to injury, the England international has seized the moment, delivering performances that have impressed fans and pundits alike.

Carragher revealed that he initially saw Eze as a player who would operate behind Ødegaard without major influence. However, Sunday’s standout showing completely shifted his perspective.

“When Eze came in, I thought, okay, maybe it’s not a game changer,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “Then he goes and scores a hat-trick. So, apologies. I certainly undervalued that signing because he looks like he could make the real difference for Arsenal this season.”

He added that beyond skill, Eze is contributing goals and overall influence—factors that could prove crucial in Arsenal’s title push.
