Former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor (Rtd), has firmly dismissed widespread claims that repentant Boko Haram members are being recruited into the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Irabor described the belief as completely false, stressing that such recruitment “does not exist.” He noted that, having served across key military formations—including Theatre Commander, Chief of Defence Training and Operations, and later CDS—he is certain the process is far too stringent to allow such infiltration.
Irabor stated that those pushing the narrative lack understanding of how the military system works. He added that the misinformation undermines public trust and efforts to rehabilitate affected communities.
He urged Nigerians to rely on verified information regarding national security matters.
