Inibehe Effiong Slams Tinubu’s Ambassadorial List as “Travesty”

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has sharply criticised President Bola Tinubu’s newly released ambassadorial nominees, describing the list as a “travesty” that rewards individuals linked to Nigeria’s decline. Effiong said the nominees—many of whom he labelled career politicians, sycophants, and morally compromised individuals—do not reflect the integrity required to represent Nigeria abroad.

He argued that ambassadors signal a nation’s direction, insisting the current list raises more concern than confidence. Effiong also condemned the inclusion of INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, stating that appointing the official who oversaw the disputed 2023 election symbolises everything wrong with Nigeria’s leadership selection.

Tinubu had earlier forwarded a second batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, urging quick confirmation of both career and non-career candidates.
