INEC’s Actions Tilt PDP Leadership Battle in Favour of Turaki-Led NWC

The internal leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to be shifting firmly in favour of the Kabiru Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC), as senior party insiders cite recent moves by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as practical proof of its legitimacy. INEC’s physical monitoring of the Osun governorship primary—organised and officially signed by the Turaki-led NWC—has been interpreted as a strong indicator of recognition.

Party sources reveal that INEC also declined to act on letters from the Anyanwu-led camp seeking to postpone the Ekiti congresses, insisting the documents did not meet basic requirements or bear signatures of officials recognized by the Commission.

Despite public disagreements, insiders argue that no genuine factional split exists, noting that INEC itself pushed for timely primaries ahead of 2027. A court ruling expected next week is anticipated to provide final legal clarity.
