Indigenous Contractors Storm Abuja, Demand Immediate Payment of N500bn Debt

Indigenous contractors have again taken to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, demanding the immediate release of over N500 billion owed for fully executed and commissioned 2024 federal projects. The protesters, under the Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria, accused the government of pushing many members into financial distress, loss of property, illness, and even death due to prolonged non-payment.

Association President Haruna Gabari criticised the Federal Government for taking public credit for the projects while refusing to release approved payments. He urged President Tinubu to intervene and direct the Minister of Finance to clear the outstanding debt, warning that the continued delay is crippling economic activities and worsening hardship.

PRO Rotimi Raheem added that despite repeated protests and meetings, payments have not been made. The contractors insist on a 48-hour resolution as they camp outside the ministry for the second day.
