The Imo State Government has undertaken a significant operation to clear a notorious spot allegedly used as a criminal hideout at the Naze Industrial Cluster, Owerri. This action forms part of its ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements from the state.
According to Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Compliance and Monitoring, the operation was a targeted initiative aimed at addressing the growing security threats in the area.
The exercise was carried out in conjunction with security operatives, following intelligence reports that indicated the cluster had become a refuge for criminal gangs.
During the demolition, authorities recovered a cache of weapons, including locally manufactured arms and other incriminating items. Several suspects were arrested and are facing potential prosecution.
Nwaneri disclosed that the demolished structures were used to orchestrate criminal activities such as robbery, drug offences, and attacks on nearby communities and within the industrial zone.
Local residents and business operators expressed relief, describing the operation as timely and necessary to restore safety and enable legitimate businesses to operate without intimidation.
The special adviser reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continue dismantling dangerous spots within the capital city and other parts of Imo State.
