Governor Fubara Welcomed Back to Rivers State Amid Cheers from Supporters

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, made a triumphant return to the state on Friday, landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, to a rousing reception from his enthusiastic supporters.

Fubara’s aircraft touched down around midday, triggering jubilant chants from the crowd of loyalists who had gathered hours in advance to greet him. This warm welcome followed President Bola Tinubu’s recent announcement to suspend the emergency rule in Rivers State.

Among those present to welcome the governor were notable supporters including Barr. Emma Okah, former Commissioner for Information and Communications; Dr. Adaeze Oreh, former Commissioner for Health; Oji Ngofa, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands; and Sydney Gbara, former Commissioner for Environment. Also in attendance were Victor Oko-Jumbo, former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly; Chisom Gbali, former Commissioner for Youths; and Evans Bipi, former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Other dignitaries included Igwe Achese, former President of NUPENG; Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, former Commissioner for Education; and former council chairmen of Port Harcourt City, Ezebunwo Ichemati, and Obio/Akpor.

President Tinubu had announced the suspension of the six-month emergency rule on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, which had been imposed during a political crisis involving Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
