In a bold step toward digital inclusion, the Osun State Government has officially launched Imole Wi-Fi, a free public internet service designed to expand access for residents, students, businesses, and communities across the state.
Announced on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the initiative is expected to transform sectors including education, health, agriculture, and commerce.
According to the rollout plan, the first phase of Imole Wi-Fi will cover strategic locations such as the Osun State Library, Alphastart Hub, Osun Mall, Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo Grammar School, and facilities within the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, unveiling the project, described it as “a gateway to opportunity”, stressing that it would cut barriers, connect people, and stimulate growth in the state’s economy.
The Special Adviser on Innovation, Azeez Badmus, noted that this launch marks only the beginning. As the program expands, more government services and digital tools will be introduced to ensure all residents benefit from Osun’s digital future.
Observers say the initiative positions Osun as a pioneer in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, setting the pace for other states to follow.
