FRSC Issues Ember Months Warning: Speeding and Reckless Driving Could Cost Lives, Commander Cautions Motorists

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, has issued a stern warning to motorists as Nigeria enters the critical ember months—a period often associated with heightened travel and increased road accidents.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the FRSC Route Commander in charge of the Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway, Mr. Nasir Mohammed, urged drivers to reduce speed, obey traffic rules, and avoid reckless behaviors that could lead to avoidable tragedies.

“Speeding may feel thrilling, but it remains one of the deadliest causes of road crashes. We urge motorists to obey traffic signs and maintain average speed limits to avoid unnecessary accidents during the ember months,” Mohammed stated.

The commander also highlighted other dangerous practices such as night travel, wrongful overtaking, drunk driving, and reckless maneuvers, all of which significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents.

He further emphasized that alcohol impairs judgment and slows reaction time, making drunk driving one of the most life-threatening decisions a motorist can make.

To combat these risks, the FRSC has pledged to intensify nationwide road safety campaigns and continuous patrols across major highways to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

Mohammed reassured Nigerians that the FRSC remains fully committed to its mission of reducing road crashes and saving lives, especially during the busy ember months when traffic density is at its peak.
